Since the Supreme Court has turned down the request seeking an extension of the deadline for link Your Aadhaar with bank accounts thus the last date to link your Aadhaar with bank accounts remains the 31st of March. It may prove foolish to wait until the end to do so since we have witnessed problems like long queues in banks and the government offices and website servers crashing due to traffic overflow.
Link your Aadhaar before the last date
Even at this time, many people are unsure about whether their Aadhaar numbers are already linked or not. They can check their status online like this:
On the UIDAI portal
- Go to the Aadhaar Card website
- Now click on ‘Check Aadhaar & Bank Account Linking Status’
- Fill your UID Aadhaar number and the captcha code and click on submit.
- After clicking on submit, an OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar registered mobile number. Enter the OTP received and click on ‘Log in’
- On successful logging in, the portal will display whether your Aadhaar is successfully linked or not.
On mobile
You can also check the status of Link your Aadhaar linking with the bank account with the help of your registered mobile number. Just dial *99*99*1# and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. After confirming your Aadhaar number, it will show you the bank account linked with Aadhaar. However, only the last bank account that has been linked with your Aadhaar will appear on the screen. In case, you have multiple bank accounts, you will have to check the status of the same with the respective bank.
The UIDAI recently published a word of caution on Twitter about keeping one’s Aadhaar number secure. The tweet was, “Never share your Aadhaar or bank details with anyone claiming to offer Aadhaar linking services over a call. UIDAI has warned of fake calls and suggested people to avoid sharing their Aadhaar or bank details with anyone. “No one can call you to ask for Aadhaar or bank details on the pretext of Aadhaar linking. This is most likely a phishing call. Do not share your details,” advised the UIDAI.
