31ST July is the last date to file Income Tax Return for the Financial Year 2017-18 and this is how you can file your Income Tax Return Online. As per Section 139(1) of Income Tax Return Act, 1961, anyone who has a tax liability or above the tax slabs, must file Income Tax Return.

First and foremost, Register Yourself: –
If you are not a registered user then, you will have to register yourself on the Income Tax Department’s E-filing Portal. If you are already a registered user, then you can login directly.
Here are the options using which you can e-file your Income Tax Return online: –
There are generally two ways of e-filing your income tax return.
- a) You can go to the download option and select the required form
- b) Then you will have to download the form and keep it on your desktop
- c) After the above-mentioned steps you will have to fill all the details offline and upload it on the site or fill the form online by clicking on the quick e-file option.
Choose the Required Form
ITR-1 is for the taxpayers who are earning a salary, pension, income from property or other sources except for lottery
ITR-2 is for those taxpayers who are earning capital gains. This form is for those having more than one house but no capital gains.

How to file the form and upload it?
If you fill the form offline after you have downloaded the form and filled in all the details, select the option of Generate XML. After this you can go to the website again and click on the ‘upload XML’ option. You will have to first log in to upload the XML file saved on your desktop and then click on submit button.
