The last date to file your belated returns for the FY 2015-16 and FY 2016-17 is 31st march, it is time for you to file your belated returns without any penalty by 31st March. Even Income Tax Department will remain open from 29th March to 31st March for the convenience of the taxpayers.

31st March will be the last day of the Financial Year 2017-18, due to which Income Tax Department is sending continuous reminders to the taxpayers to file their Income Tax Returns on time. Here are the things that you need to know before 31st March: –

  • Ayakar Seva Kendras and Income Tax Offices will remain open during their holidays from 29th March to 31st March, to allow the taxpayers to file returns before the end of the current Financial Year.
  • The Income Tax Department has also taken the initiative to remind the taxpayers to pay their advance tax for the Financial Year 2018, if they have not paid it already. The taxpayers are supposed to pay their advance tax till 31st March with interest, by doing this they can avoid paying extra interest on their self-assessment later on.
  • To file your Income Tax Returns and pay Income Tax you would require a valid PAN or Permanent Account Number, a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a laminated tamper proof card, by the income tax department of India. Well, the Government has also extended the last date to link your PAN with your Aadhar Card Number.
  • You can easily file your Income Tax return by going to the Official Income Tax Department’s website. You will have to provide certain basic details to the system, after this you will have to enter the captcha code following which you can upload the details related to your Income Tax Returns as well as the bank accounts you generally operate.
