The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the income tax return filing due date for all categories of assessees in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to January 31, 2020. This decision has brought great relief to citizens as these regions suffered heavily due to the clamp down on internet facilities in the last few months.
The CBDT had earlier extended the deadline to November 30, 2019 in an earlier statement due to the disturbances in the region and internet facilities.
In the new order by the policy-making body for the income tax department, they state, “The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in exercise of powers conferred under section 119 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (‘Act’) and in partial modification of CBDT’s order under section 119 of the Act dated 23.07.2019, 27.09.2019 and 31.10.2019 hereby further extends the ‘due-date’ for filing of Income-tax Returns/Tax Audit Reports to 31″ January. 2020 in respect of all categories of income-tax assessees in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh…”
The statement also mentioned that any income tax return or tax audit report that has been filed by taxpayers in those Union Territories after November 30, 2019 till the date of issuance of this order will be considered as been filed within the deadline.
