What is Form 26AS?
Form 26AS is an annual consolidated statement of tax that can be accessed from the official income-tax website by all taxpayers using their Permanent Account Number or ‘PAN’. If you have paid taxes on your income or tax has been deducted from your salary by your employer, then, in that case, the Income-tax department already has your details in their records.
You can take a look at your Form 26AS for the details of your income, on which the taxes have already been deducted as well as the taxes that have been paid by or on your behalf by the deductor, the tax deductor can be your employer, bank etc. Who later deposits the tax amount to the Government treasure.
Moreover, Form26AS also contains details of your tax deductor, such as their name and Tax Deduction Account number (TAN).
How can you get your Form 26AS?
You can easily download your Form 26AS from the official TRACES Website. In order to download Form26AS, you will have to log in to your account in the official Income Tax e-filing portal. You can do this either directly or by using the net-banking facility by any authorised Bank.
After you log in, you will have to click on the View Form 26AS (Tax Credit) tab, either under ‘My Account’ or ‘Quick links’ tabs. You will be redirected to the TDS-CPC website to view your Form26AS. You will have to choose the relevant assessment year, that is the year following the financial year for which you want to download the statement. Your password to open the document is your date of birth in DD/ MM/ YYYY format.
